Fortis Academy

Exciting news! We've teamed up with FORTIS to work with our teams for the remainder of the season. In addition to the coaching and parent seminars, we are working on a few more dates for them to come out and join our teams on the ice as well as a leadership seminar for the athletes themselves. This partnership comes at a perfect time for us, addressing enrollment and retainment challenges and supporting both new and experienced coaches. We're eager to see the positive impact this collaboration will have on our community. Together with FORTIS, we're shaping a vibrant and inclusive environment for everyone involved!

On December 12, we conducted two essential meetings in collaboration with FORTIS Academy, catering to both parents and coaches. We were thrilled to see an impressive turnout, with over 100 parents and 50 coaches in attendance. We are both grateful and proud to have members so committed to our program and their athletes.

For the Parent Meeting, attendance was requested from at least one parent of Mite, Squirt, 10U, and new families. The session focused on an informational seminar covering hockey development principles and equipping parents with effective strategies for navigating the youth sports culture. Topics included training volume, windows of trainability, dispelling common hockey myths, and fostering leadership and character development.

Simultaneously, the Coach Meeting targeted Mite, Squirt, 10U, and New(er) Coaches. The agenda covered various key aspects, such as general principles for practices, the impacts of early specialization in youth sports, athletic development principles, techniques for teaching edge work and skating mechanics, proper passing techniques, and the use of small area games to enhance tactical creativity. The session also emphasized skill development priorities crucial for coaching success.

We appreciate your ongoing dedication to our program and look forward to your continued involvement.
