We have two important meetings scheduled for next Tuesday, December 12, at Apple Valley High School. All are welcome, but these meetings are mandatory* for all Mite, Squirt, 10U, and New(er) hockey parents and coaches.
At the Parent Meeting at 6:30 pm we will be covering topics like hockey development principles and navigating youth sports culture.
Following at 7:30 pm is a Coaches' Meeting discussing practice principles, early specialization effects, athletic development, and more.
There will be prizes for attendees, so mark your calendars! Details below:
PARENT MEETING:
A parent meeting will be held for all Mite, Squirt, 10U, and new families. At least one parent from each family should plan to attend this important event as attendance is mandatory. Details are listed below.

Who should attend: ALL Mite, Squirt, 10U, and New(er)-to-Hockey Parents
Description: The Apple Valley Burnsville Hockey Association will be hosting an informational parent seminar to discuss hockey development principles and how parents can effectively navigate the youth sports culture. Topics will include training volume, windows of trainability, common hockey myths, leadership, and character development.
COACHES MEETING
A coaches meeting will be held for all Mite, Squirt, 10U, and New(er) Coaches.
Date - Tuesday, December 12th
Time - 7:30-8:30 pm
Location - Apple Valley High School Theatre
Who should attend: ALL Mite, Squirt, 10U, and 1st/2nd-year Coaches
Topics that will be included in this coach training:
• General principles for practices
• Affects of early specialization in youth sports
• Athletic development principles
• How to teach edge work and skating mechanics
• Proper passing technique
• Utilizing small area games to build tactical creativity
• Skill development priorities
Teams should coordinate for as many coaches as possible to attend, at a minimum at least one coach per team.
*Please note that if In case you can't make it, make sure to give Ginger Lemke a CALL directly at 612-384-8802 to coordinate with her to fill in on what you miss.
