Hey, Hockey Fam!

Get ready for an exciting week packed with events and opportunities! Tomorrow night, December 11, join us for Military Appreciation Night at the AV Sports Arena as we honor our heroes and support a deployed unit in Kuwait—don’t forget to bring a donation! Other important dates to note: Mites Picture Night is also tomorrow, The Great Minnesota Puck Pass submissions are due December 16, and AVWH Alumni Celebration Game is coming up December 20. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for St. Thomas vs. St. Cloud State Women's Hockey Exhibition on January 4 and Burnsville PolarFest & Mites Jamboree on February 8.

Be sure to check the schedule and come prepared with your gear—stick, gloves, helmet, and water. Mites should be 6 years and older.

MITES PICTURE NIGHT - DEC 11

Wednesday, December 10 is Picture Night for all Mites!

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Check SportsEngine for your team’s scheduled time.
  • How to dress your player: Full gear (no skates or helmet).
  • Jerseys: Wear your color practice jersey and bring your game jersey if you have one.
  • Timing is key: Arrive 10 minutes early to your scheduled time. The process moves quickly, and late arrivals may miss their spot.

AVWH MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT - DEC 11

What: Military Appreciation Night at the AVWH varsity game
Date: Wednesday, December 11
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Apple Valley Sports Arena
Cost: $10 or FREE for ALL Active and Retired Military

Join us for a meaningful evening as we honor the brave service members who protect our freedom, including the older brother of one of our own varsity players currently deployed in Kuwait.

What’s Happening:
Pre-Game Ceremony: Honoring our military heroes.
Exciting Raffles: Enter to win some great prizes!
Support Our Troops: We’re collecting donations for a deployed unit in Kuwait.

AVWH ALUMNI CELEBRATION GAME - DEC 20

AVWH ALUMNI CELEBRATION GAME

Mark your calendars for a truly special night on Friday, December 20, at 7:00 PM at Apple Valley Sports Arena!

This varsity game is more than just hockey—it’s a celebration of 30 years of Minnesota Girls High School Hockey and the incredible legacy of our program. We’ll honor the 1994–1995 AVWH Eagles, the First-Ever Minnesota State High School Girls Hockey Champions, with an on-ice ceremony between the 1st and 2nd periods.

ALL AVWH Alumni are invited as our honored guests and will receive free admission to the game. Reconnect with teammates, share memories, and celebrate this milestone in AVWH history! We’ll have snacks and a designated area for alumni to gather and reminisce.

Let’s pack the arena to celebrate the 30th anniversary of girls' high school hockey and the team that paved the way for so many young athletes.

THE GREAT MINNESOTA PUCK PASS - DUE DEC 16

Be Part of Hockey History: The Great Minnesota Puck Pass
Join the State of Hockey in celebrating Minnesota’s upcoming role as host of the 2026 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship! Fans across Minnesota are invited to submit short videos (5–10 seconds) showcasing their hockey spirit. Whether you’re passing a puck, showing off your favorite hockey pastime, or celebrating with your team, your video could be featured in a montage alongside Minnesota hockey legends.

Submit your video by December 16, 2024, to be part of this historic moment. Selected clips will premiere during the ceremonial handoff of the tournament from Ottawa to Minnesota in January 2025. ST. THOMAS VS. ST. CLOUD - JAN 4

Save the date! On Thursday, January 4th, at 2:00 PM, the University of St. Thomas Women's Hockey Team will take on the St. Cloud State University Women's Hockey Team in an exhibition game at the St. Louis Park ROC Outdoor Rink.

Admission is FREE, so grab your friends and family for an afternoon of exciting college hockey!

As a special connection, our very own Apple Valley alum, Marie Moran, will be on the ice representing St. Cloud State in her second year with the team!

The game will feature a 60-minute regulation match (with referees), followed by some fun 4v4 and 3v3 action after regular play.

“We are hoping to get a bunch of youth players and teams in the stands to help grow awareness of college hockey in Minnesota!” - Bethany Brausen, UST Interim Head Coach.

Don't miss this chance to cheer on Marie and experience the thrill of college hockey!

POLAR FEST & MITES JAMBOREE – FEB 8

Bundle up for a day of winter fun! Polar Fest returns to North River Hills Park on Saturday, February 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Celebrate the season with family-friendly outdoor activities, including horse and carriage rides, ice bowling, music, sledding, and more.

Plus, don’t miss the Mites Jamboree earlier in the day, with games starting at 10 a.m. It’s the perfect way to kick off a fun-filled day celebrating winter and hockey!
