Hey, hockey fam! We’ve got some exciting updates in this week’s issue that you won’t want to miss! First up, Board Elections are wrapping up tonight—so make sure you get your vote in before midnight! We’ve also got the latest Training Center Hours and a bunch of new e>train sessions that just got added. And of course, a big shoutout to all our amazing volunteers—you make everything we do possible, and we couldn’t do it without you! Keep reading for all the details!

Reminder: Board Elections Closing Tonight!

Don't forget to cast your vote for the AVBHA Board Elections before midnight tonight, March 10, 2025! Each term is 3 years, with 5 seats up for re-election each year. Remember, each family gets only one vote per household, but you'll need to vote for five candidates to fill the available seats.

Make sure your voice is heard and choose your top 5 candidates to help shape the future of our association!

Aaron Baumgartner

Current AVBHA Parent – Mini Mite 2 & Mite Plus U6 player
Dedicated Coach & Mentor – Actively coaching multiple levels in the association
Experience & Contributions:

  • Current AVBHA Coach – MM1, MM2, and Mite Plus U6
  • Community Involvement – Apple Valley youth baseball coach
  • Leadership Roles – Board member of St. Paul Rugby Club & former officer in Minnesota Youth Rugby
  • Committed to growing the program, fostering a positive hockey environment, and supporting all AVBHA families

Aaron is eager to expand his involvement beyond coaching and contribute to the future success of AVBHA.

Aaron Dahl

Current AVBHA Parent – One child in Mite 2
Hockey & Leadership Background – Former assistant coach & goalie coach with experience in program management
Experience & Contributions:

  • Current AVBHA Assistant Coach – Mite 2
  • Former U18 Assistant Coach & Goalie Coach in Huntsville, AL
  • Learn to Skate Program Volunteer
  • Professional expertise in program evaluation, event coordination, and financial planning

Brent Ericksen

Current AVBHA Parent – Two children in Mini Mite 2 and Mite Minor
Youth & Collegiate Hockey Experience – Former high school & college hockey player, with coaching and officiating experience
Experience & Contributions:

  • Coach/General Staff – Mini Mite 1, Mini Mite 2, and Mite Minor
  • Thanksgiving Tournament & Try Hockey for Free Volunteer – 2 years each
  • Former Hockey Rink Manager in Spooner, WI, overseeing ice time, Zamboni, pro shop, concessions, and more
  • Hamline University Coaching Staff – Collegiate recruiting and coaching experience
  • Referee – Officiated at all levels across the Metro
    Vision for the AVBHA Board: Passionate about creating a positive, well-organized environment where players, coaches, and families can thrive. Focused on clear communication and direction for the association.

Ryan Goodmanson

Current AVBHA Parent – Two children in Mini Mite 2 & Mite Minor
Passionate About Hockey – Over 30 years of playing, coaching, and mentoring experience
Experience & Contributions:

  • AVBHA Mite Coach3 seasons
  • Former NAHL Junior Hockey & NCAA College Hockey Player (UW-River Falls)
  • Led youth outreach programs for hockey associations and team-run camps
  • Valley Athletic Association Coach – Soccer & flag football
  • Corporate Leadership Experience – Skilled in program development and process improvement

Ryan is eager to help grow AVBHA through recruitment, player development, and program innovation to ensure kids have the best possible hockey experience.

Luke Korkowski

Current AVBHA Parent – 1 child in Mite Major/Advanced Mite Boys, 1 former player in AVHS Women’s Hockey
Dedicated Board Member & Leader – Served 8 years on AVHA/AVBHA board in multiple key roles
Experience & Contributions:

  • Helped establish Firehawks & Valkyries co-ops and the AVHA/BHC merger
  • Led acquisition of RapidShot, RapidHands, Skating Treadmill, and the move to the new AV Training Center
  • Developed Mite Summer Training Program & coaching resources for skill development
  • Partnered with E>Train for treadmill skating sessions
  • Served as AVBHA Treasurer for 6 years, ensuring financial stability and low-cost hockey

Luke hopes to continue enhancing player development, financial sustainability, and program growth while fostering a strong hockey culture from Mites to High School.

Candice Krmpotich

Current AVBHA Parent – 1 child at the 8U/Mite level
Passionate About Youth Hockey – Current AVBHA board member and experienced team manager
Experience & Contributions:

  • 2nd season as an 8U/Mite team manager, focusing on social coordination and team engagement
  • Substitute teacher in District 196, actively involved with many AVBHA players
  • Former VAA soccer coach and summer camp counselor
  • 20 years as a music educator and private lesson instructor, mentoring youth in various capacities

Candice hopes to support the girls’ program (Valkyries) and assist with team managers to enhance the player and family experience.

Randy Naughton

Current AVBHA Parent – 1 child at Squirt A level
Passionate About Hockey & Community – Former player, dedicated volunteer, and current AVBHA board member
Experience & Contributions:

  • 2 years on AVBHA Board (previously served on Burnsville’s board)
  • Peewee Level Coordinator, Training Center Manager, and Picture Coordinator
  • 5 years of coaching experience, including Mite House Lead and Squirt Assistant Coach
  • Led improvements at Burnsville Training Center, including facility updates and turf installation

Randy hopes to continue his role as a Level Coordinator and Burnsville Training Center Manager to support player development and program growth.

Holly Pemble

Current AVBHA Parent – Two children in Mite Minor (8U Intermediate) and Squirt A
Experience & Contributions:

  • Coach – Coached Mite 2 and 8U Intermediate Plus teams, currently coaching Mite Minor and 8U Intermediate Plus
  • Team Manager – Managed Squirt C team during the 2023-2024 season
  • Community Leader – Chief Negotiator and Union Vice President for her school district
  • Cub Scouts Leader – Committee Chair, Treasurer, and fundraiser organizer for Pack 235, Wolf den leader for Pack 235/227 serving the Apple Valley community

Passion for Growth: Holly is committed to supporting the growth of the girls' program and making hockey accessible for all children.

Kelly Jo Powerstorm

Current AVBHA Parent – Mini Mite 2 player
Passionate About Youth Hockey – Former college and high school player, experienced coach
Experience & Contributions:

  • Co-led Mini Mite 1 & 2 programs and assisted with the Mite Summer Training Program
  • Extensive coaching background:
    • Former St. Cloud State player (2006-2010)
    • Head Coach for Sauk Rapids U14 Girls and Minneapolis Storm U12 Girls
    • Assistant Coach for College of St. Benedict’s Women’s Team
    • Head Coach for MN Girls High Performance 15 District 5
  • Committed to growing the girls’ and women's game and enhancing player development

Kelly Jo hopes to help develop players, strengthen community engagement, and continue to grow the sport of hockey for all AVBHA families.

Dedicated Volunteer & Leader – Experienced in team management, fundraising, and social media

  • Former Team Manager – Mites teams
  • Blaze Youth Wrestling Board Member – Served in social media, fundraising, and team uniforms
  • Competitive Gymnastics Coach & Program Leader (2018-2021)
  • Passionate about supporting AVBHA through jersey coordination, fundraising, social media, and board administration

Paige is eager to help AVBHA grow and thrive by ensuring a strong program for all players and families.

Current AVBHA Parent – Two children in Mite 1 and Mite 2
Experience & Contributions:

  • Coach/On-Ice Volunteer – Helping with Mite 1, Mite 2, Intro to Hockey, and Try Hockey for Free
  • Coaching Experience – Spring & Fall 3v3 Leagues for Tate and his teammates, VAA Soccer coach
  • School Carnival Volunteer – Assisted with West View and Echo Park events

Passion for the Game: A lifelong Apple Valley hockey player, Bob is deeply committed to ensuring the youngest players' interests are prioritized. He believes in making hockey accessible, affordable, and organized for all players.
Veteran and Professional Background: An Iraq War Army Veteran, Saint Cloud State University Alumni, and USDA Contracting Officer Team Manager.

TRAINING CENTER HOURS

Get ready to elevate your game with off-ice training led by the incredible Brandon Steege! As an exceptional coach and athlete, Brandon brings unmatched energy and expertise to every session, and we’re lucky to have him. Check the updated BVTC schedule for this week and come prepared with your gear: stick, gloves, helmet, and water bottle. Mites must be 6 years or older to participate. Let’s make it a fantastic week of dryland training!

3:30 - 6:00 - squirt, peewee, bantam, 10u and 12u

Tuesday
3:30 - 5:30 - squirt, peewee, bantam, 10u and 12u
5:30 - 6:30 - boys mites and squirts
6:30 - 7:30 - girls mites and 10u
7:30 - 8:30 - peewee, bantam and 12u

Wednesday
