WHY put FORTIS Leadership Scenarios into practice?
In summary, FORTIS Leadership Scenarios are crucial because many young athletes miss out on learning important leadership and character skills. Consistent leadership development is essential for positive change in youth sports. The goal is to shift the focus from individual performance to building leaders who take initiative, own their actions, and care for teammates. The mission is to combat negativity and transform the lives of athletes and communities. The aim is to be positive change agents actively improving the youth sports experience. The ultimate objective is to use youth sports to make a lifelong impact.
Coaches: All you need is 5 minutes after practice (it is best to let them get their energy out before you sit them down to concentrate). Let them know that on “...” day, the coaches will meet in the locker room briefly after ice time then read the scenario and run through the questions with your team.
Scenarios will be posted weekly on our FORTIS ACADEMY page under the “LEADERSHIP SCENARIOS” tab.
Scenario: Practices haven’t been very intense lately. You feel like the team is unfocused and lacks the drive to get better. There may be a variety of reasons for this, but you know that you need to get everyone on board and working harder. There are only a few athletes that always come prepared to practice.
What steps can you take as a leader to improve practice pace?
How can you work together with your coach?
How can you work together with other teammates who are hard workers to encourage others to do the same?
Coaches Note: It’s amazing how a given athlete can be the hardest worker in one setting and then completely distracted in a different. The environment surrounding players can have a major impact on the energy and intensity of a practice. Be open to incorporating some suggestions from your players if this is an issue your team faces. It’ll give them ownership and make them more likely to train harder.

Join us for a special evening as AVWH honors and appreciates our military heroes! This Thursday, January 18, at 7:00 PM, our Varsity Eagles will face off against Metro South Phoenix in a thrilling game dedicated to Military Appreciation Night.
